K-pouch (Kock Continent Ileostomy)

The K-pouch is a “continent ileostomy” where the small bowel is attached to the skin, but unlike other ileostomies, the K-pouch has a valve which prevents it from leaking throughout the day. It is emptied using insertion of a tube. K-pouch surgery and management can be complex and challenging. Mr Eugene Ong was able to gain significant experience in this surgery whilst a fellow at the The Cleveland Clinic.
