Laparoscopic Ventral Rectopexy

Mr Eugene Ong trained and subsequently held a consultant position at Oxford University NHS Trust Hospitals, UK. He worked in the Oxford Pelvic Floor Unit, a world leader in the management of pelvic floor disorders and a pioneer in the technique of laparoscopic ventral rectopexy (LVR). LVR is an innovative technique to correct rectal prolapse (where the rectum protrudes outside the anus). It is performed with “keyhole” surgery and the rectum is supported into place by a piece of “mesh” (a synthetic or biological material) to prevent it prolapsing again. Compared to other techniques, LVR has a very high success rate, fast recovery and minimal complications.
